Happy 50th Birthday, Amelia Bedelia
Hey Grownups! Remember Amelia Bedelia? Did you realize that Amelia has been making us laugh for 50 years?
Well, 2013 is Amelia's 50th Birthday and I had the pleasure of seeing her 2nd creator at the annual Scholastic Author's Breakfast this winter. The first 12 Amelia Bedelia books were written by Peggy Parish, the aunt of the current author, Herman Parish. According to Mr. Parish after his aunt passed away, children were still begging for Amelia stories and decided to give one a try. He's been writing them ever since, and has expanded to picture books and chapter books about Amelia as a child.
